Civil forfeiture laws are perhaps the most serious assault on private property rights in our nation's history. With civil forfeiture, police and prosecutors seize property and use it to fund budgets without criminal charges. The U.S. Constitution protects innocent until proven guilty. Not so with civil forfeiture. Your property is guilty until you prove it innocent. Law enforcement has a huge incentive to police for profit, not justice. This is a production by the Institute for Justice.
